Why Now Is The Time To Consider Indoor/ Outdoor Living

If 2020 has taught us anything about our homes, it’s this: we have to find ways to make our homes suitable for day-to-day living and enjoyment, not just a place we lay our heads at night. It’s becoming clear that there is no end in sight to the Coronavirus pandemic and that future stay-at-home orders may be in the cards. Who knows what the future holds.

This summer, vacations are on hold and we are all staying closer to home. Many homeowners are frustrated by the feeling of being cooped up and cut off from the outdoors; this will be the first summer that families who are used to vacations designed for outdoor enjoyment will be missing. Staying at home doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy the outdoors, though. The addition of an indoor/outdoor space in your home is the best way to make the most of your property and to enjoy the outdoors in ways that you simply couldn’t have before.

Here’s a few of the reasons why we recommend indoor/outdoor spaces to homeowners as a part of their home design or renovation plans.

  1. Bang For Your Buck
When it comes to making the most of your square footage and creating additional living and entertaining space, an indoor/outdoor design does the trick. A deck or patio with garage or accordion style doors off of the kitchen or living area instantly doubles or even triples the space size.

  2. Adds That “Something Special” Touch
Homes with well-designed indoor/outdoor spaces complete with unique amenities (think fireplaces, lounge areas, dining spaces, pools, and spas) make staying at home feel more like a vacation. When it comes time to put your home on the market, an indoor/ outdoor space will work in your favor as a fantastic selling point and will undoubtedly boost the value of the home.

  3. Better Living
Science has proven that more time spent outdoors does wonders for both mental and physical health. The addition of an indoor/outdoor space makes spending time outside more accessible and enjoyable. A sunroom with windows that open fully on nice days and close for the ability to heat or cool during more extreme weather gives homeowners the option to get the outdoor experience no matter the season. A porch, balcony, deck, or patio that seamlessly flows into other living areas make being outside part of everyday life. Just think of the benefits that a little fresh air and vitamin D  more time spent outside could afford your family!

  4. Entertainment Workhorse
Indoor/ outdoor spaces are the perfect entertainment venue. While you likely aren’t throwing parties any time soon, this pandemic will eventually come to an end. When it does, you’ll be itching to host friends and family; what better place to do it than an indoor/outdoor oasis?! The extra space, entertainment options, and festive feel of a home that opens to the outdoors will make gatherings all the more fun and memorable.
