Love Being Home for the Holidays

The upcoming holiday season is sure to look differently than it has in prior years. As the pandemic continues to spread and fluctuate, it is becoming more and more clear that our lives will likely not go back to “normal” until a vaccine is made available. Even though we are just beginning the summer season, now is the time to be thinking ahead to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years arrangements. While we don’t know exactly how things will play out, we can confidently predict that the home will continue to be the safest and most sensible place to gather and spend time.

Waiting until the last minute to get a home renovation started to be enjoyed during the holiday season is not advisable–this year especially! Think of how a new kitchen, renovated bathrooms, or extra space would enhance and enliven this year’s holiday festivities. For something like a kitchen or bath renovation, projects can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months depending on the size and scope of the project. Consider items like permitting, the drawing and revision of plans, and the acquisition of materials (during these pandemic times, many materials are back ordered) when you think about the amount of time a project might take.

Many homeowners wait until the first crisp days of fall to begin thinking about getting their homes ready for the holidays. While small projects can often be done in time, larger scale projects usually have to wait until the following year. The most unfortunate situation would be for a home to be in the middle of a renovation during the holiday season–trust us, this isn’t an ideal situation! Summer is the best time to get things started so that the home is ready to accept family and other guests.
